Robin Jackson, President Skal International London

A word from our President:

As you are all undoubtedly aware on the 12 June our great friend and Skålleague Jim Power passed away. Jim had been General Secretary since 1993 and Skål was Jim’s life. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with Jim’s family at this difficult time. Skål clubs from around the world immediately started a discussion on the best way of honouring Jim’s memory and it was decided that Clubs can make a special contribution to the Florimond Volckaert Fund. The Florimond Volckaert Fund was set up in 1954 in the name of Skål’s founder to provide assistance to Skålleagues and their immediate families who are in serious need of assistance. Jim was devoted to the fund so it was felt that this would be a fitting tribute.

Skål London with the assistance of the Benevolent fund will be making a contribution and any Skålleagues wishing to make a personal contribution are invited to do so although of course there is no obligation. Any members wishing to contribute please send to our treasurer Peter Adamou.

I hope to see you at one of our forthcoming events.

Robin Jackson
(July 2010)
